Conforming golf clubs for Amateur Public Links?
iam qualifying for the 2010 us public links champiosnhip and i need to no if my clubs conform with the new groove rule.

Driver= Taylormade r7 HT
Hybrid= Titleist 909 H
Irons= Callaway X Forged (2008 set)
Wedges= Taylormade rac wedges
Putter= Scotty Cameron Newport 2.0
Yeah, you're fine. Plus, nobody is going to be checking out your clubs anyway. You could easily play uncorforming clubs and get away with it. Not that I'm condoning cheating. Good luck. I played in the public links championship in 2001. It's an awesome experience if you're good enough to qualify. But it won't be easy. But typically in the public links qualifiers, they don't set the course up ultra hard. But it will take several under par for 36 holes.
Are there any amateur philosophy or astronomy clubs open to the public in melbourne?
There are no student clubs that cater to philosophy or astronomy in my uni and i find it disappointing.I guess its not cool enough. I'm hoping that there are clubs or groups of people that get together for these things in melbourne.
You could try checking out the Astronomical Society of Victoria.
Amateur astronomers of Austin, Texas: when are the public star parties on Mansfield dam?
I heard somewhere that some Astronomers meet on Mansfield dam for stargazing. Anyone ever been to one of these? if you have, I have a few questions:

when do the "meetings" take place?
where, on the dam, to the meetings take place?
about how many people attend?
about how many people bring telescopes?
what time?
any rules against/anything wrong with bringing my own telescope?

any help appreciated-looking forward to it!
I've not been able to find any info on organized meetings since the Telescope shop on Anderson Mill Road closed. I was thinking about heading out there tonight, 7/17/09, myself to see what it is like, or even if people are still doing it. I'd be getting there around 10:30. I think folks meet up at the parking area at the top of the dam. The benefits of Mansfield are social as well as the opportunity to check out different scopes. Typically, if I am going to drive, I'll head further out of town for better darkness, but this can be a good opportunity to meet folks and check out their gear. Absolutely bring your own scope. These things are also about sharing and comparing.
How should I train for the US Amateur Public Links and what will it be like competition-wise?
I'm 16 and I am trying out at Youghiogheny Country Club in Pittsburgh. I'm a +0.7 Handicap. This is the first competition I have ever played in and I am kind of nervous. I have until June 14 to train. The course is around 6,300 yards long. What are some drills I can do? I drive the ball anywhere between 240-270 on average. I will do whatever it takes to qualify and to Win the Championship. If you have any experience in this or any other event, I would love to hear your advice. Also will I need to provide my caddy a smock or will they give me one? Any advice at all is welcomed.

Thanks
Im not a great golfer but I play a lot of tournaments I shoot in the mid to high 70s
-SHORT GAME (especially short putts, because when you are nervous you tempo gets so bad and you will miss short putts that you would usually make.
-Talk to the people in your group, it will help you all to relax.
-Dont think about the holes you havent played yet, ONE SHOT AT A TIME
-Play your natural shot, dont be like TW trying to tweak your swing as you play. This could be a disaster for mere mortals.
-Take your medicine, avoid big numbers; punch out
-Bring food and drinks, you could get caught in a slow tournament or in a slow group; you will inevitably get hungry
-You can never be too prepared, Bring rain gear, sweaters, bug spray, you never know

I havnt ever played at this course, but with it being so short you should have a lot of short irons into pins so you sould have lots of birdy opportunities so dont worry if you make a bogey.

I have never played a tournament of this level, but Im sure you will do good. With a +.07 handicap at 16 you obviously have some talent. Trust your instincts
I am a keen amateur photographer,what is the law in taking photographs at public events in scotland?
Been taking photographs at my local events,for 6yrs,to record
the history for future generations,i have never had any problems
untill recently when i was rudely approached by an adult male,informing me i could not take photographs of the guyren
playing football,without parents signing consent forms. i was approached by the parents at the event,and was told if i wanted
to take photographs this was okay. i understand guyren have
to be protected.....what is my position legally. When i go to schools
to photograph the guyren at prize giving,sports day etc,the school
needs consent forms from parents for me to take photos,this i
find no problem with and have always worked with the head teacher, this is a. diffrent situation,as it is on private property.
Any help regarding public events,would be appreciated.
If u ask permission from local authorities anything is possible...
How can an amateur photographer get a press pass?
I am an amateur photographer and have started taking pictures at more public events such as races, parades, and speeches. I was wondering how I should go about obtaining a pass to get where I need to go in the action (ex. In the middle of the track at a race). How can I get such passes.
Thank you
Here are the requirements for the motorsports park where I shoot. It is VERY difficult to obtain proper credentials, because of the risks involved in letting amateurs have access to the track. You will note that they do not accept requests from freelance photographers for insurance reasons. You will not be able to make up some bogus publication and get away with it. Most places are probably similar. www.njmp.com/media_credentials.ht…

Kevin K Is correct. You can indeed get many nice vantage points at several tracks from the stands. Just load a long enough lens (and 70-300 is nice on an APS-C sensor) and you will do fine. You can submit some shots to your local paper and see what it leads to.
How would you get insurance for an amateur fight?
We are investors looking to hold amateur fights (boxing or street style, depending on insurance) but have no idea where to start to look for insurance. We have access to a couple of bars or public halls or even a private residence. We are in Canada, does anyone know where to start?
Grab the phone book and look up large commercial insurance brokers. While you would be able to obtain a liability policy, I can guarantee you two things: First it will exclude injuries suffered by the participants; Second it is going to be VERY expensive. At least $5,000 for one small venue with good security, exits, fire protection, etc. Low five figures if we are talking about multiple venues. I would forget hosting the event at a private residence, because no one is going to cover that.
What microphone to use for amateur movies made outdoors and in public?
I'm looking into making a few movies but I want to be able to film my subjects in public, like at a park or a mall from a distance. How do I pick up sound without having them yell or do a lip-sync voice over? I read a little bit about shotgun microphones but I just want specifically my subject's voices, so is there some kind of portable unidirectional microphone that they can carry around?

Also, how are shows like The Hills recorded with sound? Do they use shotgun microphones?

Thanks in advance!
No a show like The Hills would use radio mics that they clip onto their pants. They're quite easy to use so that's an option.

Regarding shotgun mics, they tend to be unidirectional anyway but if you're getting a wide shot - it'd probably be hard to pick their voices up without getting the mic in shot.

Maybe if you have a shotgun, do a few close-ups of them speaking their dialogue and then do a wide shot but use the dialogue from the close-up? That might not be an option for you, though.

Personally, I'd say go with the radio mics.
Are there any good sites where an amateur paleontologist can find dinosaur fossils?
I've heard of some sites before in Maryland that have dinosaur fossils but they aren't accessible to the public anymore. Are there any others? I have seen a geological map and noticed that there are cretaceous rocks up the coast from Calvert's cliff. Are any of these rocks accessible and do they contain dinosaur fossils?
You could try contacting the Maryland Geological Survey. Perhaps somebody would be kind enough there to help. I know there are Lower Cretaceous localities in the State with dino tracks, for example, but access isn't exactly encouraged in sensitive cases, as I'd imagine you can well appreciate.

Update
<<Vertebrate fossils are rare, so it is illegal to collect them yourself unless on private land.>>

Ignore that, seeing as it generally isn't illegal. It can be in some circumstances and some places.
