| Why does my engine ping/knock right before automatic transmission shifts? 2001 Toyota Corolla, 4 speed automatic. The tranny shifts harshly making the car thumb slightly. | Tried higher octane. That's funny. The car has an ECM that adjusts for low octane gas so you don't EVER hear a ping from the octane being too low. Knocking is a different sound than pinging. Oil change has nothing to do with the transmission. O2 sensors definitly have nothing to do with the transmission. You didn't say but first thing I would do is check the transmission fluid level, and second, it's a 9 year old car and I would have the tranny drained and the tranny filter cleaned or changed. I wouldn't have the tranny fluid flushed, just changed. |

| Salvege Vehicle DMV form? Long story short I bought a salvaged car.... a 94 integra LS to be exact. I know the routine you have to go threw to get the car registered. I have all the proper paper work from the salvage title to the DMV forms. The problem is on one of the forms it ask why was the car salvaged, auto theft, damage etc, and the truth is I have no idea. The car looks really good for a car from 1994 the engine looks really clean, tranny catches nicely, interior 2 thumbs up, paint is the org red with slight fading in the back. Only thing I noticed was the dent on the hatch and the rear bumper hanging which I also noticed is being held together by screws. Im thinking maybe someone fixed him up a Little. It also has high mileage but that's nothing a swap or a rebuild cant cure. Now I read up on this a little bit and I found out that if a car as old as this one gets damaged to the point were the repair price is 75% of the vehicles value which at this day and age I believe is 1600 maybe 2000 then it can get a salvage title even though the damage may be minor compaired to other cars. Basically I have to send these forms in and im wondering if I could just leave that one part blank because I have no idea why the car was salvaged and asking the place I bought it from is not optional. |
